The FRQ embarks on new collaborations in oceanographic research
At the United Nations Ocean Conference, held in Nice, France, in June 2025, the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) formalised two major partnerships in Franco-Quebec oceanographic research.
🔹 A declaration of intent was signed between the FRQ, the Institut Universitaire Européen de la mer (IUEM-UBO)(France) and ISMER-UQAR, with a view to developing two jointly supervised theses on the unique geological archives of Anticosti Island. The FRQ will support these projects with two doctoral scholarships of $25,000/year over four years.
🔹 The FRQ also participated in the renewal of the Takuvik International Laboratory, a long-standing partnership between Laval University and the CNRS.
🔹 Finally, the GEOMARIS Chair, the first joint chair between Sorbonne Université and Université Laval, was launched. This innovative chair, focused on geomatics, ecology and acoustics in marine environments, will receive financial support from the FRQ, Sorbonne University and Laval University.
These commitments reaffirm the FRQ's active role in developing collaborative research focused on major global ocean issues.
