Hello dear Québec-Océan community,
The scientific direction of our group is undergoing a renewal this autumn. After more than 10 years in the position, Jean-Éric Tremblay, scientific co-director with Gesche Winkler, is handing over to Frédéric Maps. It is with great enthusiasm that our new dynamic duo, Gesche and Frédéric, join forces to propel our mission and our members even further.
The Québec-Océan team would like to warmly congratulate and thank Jean-Éric for his work and involvement at the heart of Québec-Océan. Jean-Éric has overseen two of the group's grant renewals, and with his support, Québec-Océan has carved out an enviable place for itself within the Quebec oceanographic community. Following a well-considered decision, Jean-Éric is stepping down to take on new challenges. He will continue to support our association by sitting on our administrative committee.
Frédéric Maps, a full professor at Université Laval, is eager to take over. Having completed his doctoral studies in oceanography at the Université du Québec à Rimouski, he first joined Québec-Océan as a student. Following his post-doctorate at the Université du Maine, he carried out collaborative research with our members on zooplankton in the St. Lawrence maritime estuary as a contract worker at the Maurice Lamontagne Institute. Frédéric subsequently obtained a professorship at ULaval in numerical modeling of marine ecosystems, and joined our ranks as a co-investigator. Since then, he has been an active member of our various committees. It is therefore with a holistic vision of Québec-Océan and with passion that Frédéric begins this new mandate.
The Québec-Océan team is proud to present its new team, and looks forward to starting this new chapter with you!
