Ultraviolet absorbers and industrial antioxidants are contaminants of increasing interest, as they are found in a wide range of products such as anti-aging creams, shampoos, or textiles used daily. A team led by Abigaëlle Dalpé-Castilloux (UQAR-ISMER), Youssouf Soubaneh (UQAR) and Zhe Lu (UQAR-ISMER), studied the fate of these contaminants in the St. Lawrence River. Their results highlighted the presence of ultraviolet absorbers and industrial antioxidants in surface waters, suspended particles, and sediments, as well as in pelagic and omnivorous bottom-dwelling fish in St. Lawrence, indicating the accumulation of these contaminants of emerging concern in the river.
