PhD opportunity: Modelling biodiversity in the Gulf of St. Lawrence

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate to conduct research focusing on better understand and predict the structure of the Gulf of St. Lawrence marine community to better manage it. The project will require to develop statistical models designed to study the spatiotemporal variation of biodiversity in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and is meant to be applied to complete surveys gathered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (over 50 years of data on hundreds of species) and spot surveys.

This project is a collaboration between Université de Sherbrooke and Fisheries and Ocean Canada Moncton.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s in statistics, biostatistics or biology, knowledge in spatiotemporal modelling, a good knowledge of the R statistical language and a strong interest in marine ecology.
