CONFERENCE - ONLINE October 21, 2021 - 6:00 pm
The coeur des sciences de l'UQAM, in partnership with the Ministère de l'Économie et de l'Innovation and Québec-Océan, is organizing a conference entitled "Océans: quand le courant ne passe plus" (Oceans: when the current no longer flows) by Bruno Tremblay (McGill)
Could the Gulf Stream ever stop? The oceans are far from being vast seas of tranquility. Ocean currents circulate water in both hemispheres, both horizontally and at depth.
This uninterrupted mixing plays a fundamental role in the distribution of heat from the equator to the poles. However, recent studies show a slowing down of the currents in the Atlantic Ocean. Is this a natural cycle or a new sign of global warming? What could be the consequences on the climate? Could biodiversity be affected? Dive into the turbulence of ocean currents.
