Three research contracts worth nearly $1 million to develop tools for monitoring coastal erosion in the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence have been awarded by the government of Québec. Professors Pascal Bernatchez (UQAR) and Dany Dumont (UQAR-ISMER) will lead two research projects.
Pascal Bernatchez in association with Professor David Didier will lead the realization of the Environmental Monitoring Program of beach nourishment in the estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence with a funding of approximately $460,000.
Dany Dumont and Pascal Bernatchez will lead a numerical modeling project that will simulate ocean-ice and sea-wave-water level interactions in the Estuary and Gulf of St. Lawrence, taking into account climate change, in order to establish the level of risk related to coastal hazards and to design effective protective structures, thanks to a grant of $190,000.
Funding for these research contracts is provided within the budgets of the 2013-2022 Loss Prevention Framework, which allows for investments in risk assessment and treatment of a wide range of hazards such as coastal erosion and flooding, flooding, landslides and earthquakes.
