Everyone is welcome to attend the scientific meeting planned on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please note however that Monday November 13 activities are for Québec-Océan members only.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS
All participants can submit an abstract for a poster presenting works relevant to the Québec-Ocean scientific program. However only Quebec-Ocean members will be selected for oral presentations. The registration form must be sent on October 13, 2017 at the latest. he form must clearly state the preferred type of presentation (oral or poster) and include the  name of all co-authors, the presentation title, as well as a synopsis of the presentation no longer than 150 words.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS

The selection of oral presentations will aim at covering the vast scope of Québec-Océan's research. Overall, about 15 oral presentations will be selected along with postdoc flash presentations.

Get prepared:

  • Registration on or before October 13, 2017. Provide: preferred type of presentation (oral or poster), name of all co-authors, presentation title, presentation synopsis (150 words max)
  • Conference may be presented in French or in English
  • You must include the Québec-Océan logo in your presentation file
  • You must upload a copy of your presentation on the desktop of the conference laptop at the beginning of the event. Internet access will be provided. Please tell the technician if your presentation includes video files, internet video files, sound segments or any other specifics that requires testing prior to your presentation time.
TIPS AND TRICKS TO IMPROVE YOUR ORAL PRESENTATION

POSTERS

All presenters must place their posters at the assigned location on the display boards upon arrival at the Convention Centre. Posters will be on display at all times. Since there will be two posters on each board surface (four posters per board), make sure that your poster complies with size prescriptions.

Presentation categories:

  • Presentation of research results: all presenters
  • Presentation of research without results : only for 1st-yr Master students

Get prepared:

  • Registration on or before October 13, 2017. Provide: preferred type of presentation (oral or poster), name of all co-authors, presentation title, presentation synopsis (150 words max)
  • Poster text in French or in English
  • Poster size: 1 m high x 1 m wide (3'4'' par 3'4'') maximum
  • You must include the Québec-Océan logo on your poster
  • Your poster must be placed at its assigned location when you arrive on November 13 or before 10 am on November 14
  • Posters exceeding the prescribed size will be excluded from the competition and could be relocated.
TIPS AND TRICKS TO IMPROVE YOUR POSTER PRESENTATION
STUDENT COMPETITION
Eight awards, including six cash prizes, will be presented to students for their outstanding performance in oral and poster presentations.
  • Two $350 prizes for best oral presentation
  • Three $250 prizes for best poster presentation
  • One $100 prize for best poster presentation of an early stage project (no results)
  • People's Choice Award – Oral presentation
  • People's Choice Award – Poster presentation.

QUALIFYING FOR THE COMPETITION

In order to qualify for a cash prize, you must:

  • Be a Msc or PhD candidate and a member of Québec-Océan
  • Present your research project: without results for 1st-yr MSc students; with research results for all other presenters
  • Make sure that your presentation complies with all presentation rules (see CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS)
  • Present your poster to jury members and answer their questions on Tuesday, during Poster session 1 or 2

In order to qualify for the Public Choice Award, you must:

  • Present a research project relevant to Québec-Océan's scientific program
  • Make sure that your presentation complies with all presentation rules (see CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – ORAL AND POSTER PRESENTATIONS)
  • Present your poster to all participants and answer their questions on Tuesday, during the Poster session.

 

EVALUATION PROCESS

Selected Québec-Océan members form the evaluation panel that will examine the merits of oral and poster presentations based on the following criteria:

  • Scientific : The research project is top notch and original
  • Didactic : The written and oral demonstrations are clear and efficient
  • Visual : the presentation is well-balanced an easy to follow.

Poster competition contenders will be separated into sub-groups that will meet the jury during one of two distinct time periods. The poster session evaluation periods are as follows.

  • Period 1: odd-numbered posters
  • Period 2: even-numbered posters.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

As a Strategic Research Cluster, Québec-Océan counts members who a re researchers, postdoctoral fellows, research assistants and students from several universities and research organisations in the Province of Québec. Comprising representatives from most of these institutions, Québec-Océan’s student committee gets involved each year with the organising committee of the Annual Scientific Meeting. They propose and organise social activities aimed at facilitating all participants’ involvement as well as light and fun exchanges and discussions.
