World Oceans Day 2017 - The Quebec-Ocean way

Quebec-Ocean teamed up with the organizing committee of the 14th International Symposium on Estuarine Biogeochemistry (IEBS 2017), the UQAR and the Parc national du Bic to present popular science activities to celebrate World Oceans Day on June 8.
  • From 10 am till 3 pm, the public was invited to Ferme Rioux at Parc national du Bic to discover an exhibition of different research topics presented by graduate students in marine sciences, most of whom were Quebec-Ocean members. They presented posters, videos, photos and small demonstrations of their works on the oceanic circulation, sea ice dynamics, climate change and much more.
  • From 1 to 2 pm, Richard St-Louis presented a popularized conference on the St. Lawrence Estuary and its unique characteristics, emphasizing some of the main conclusions drawn during the 14th International Symposium on Estuarine Biogeochemistry which took place at UQAR the days before.
The audience showed a great interest in the conference and asked numerous questions. Altogether, about 60 people visited the exhibition during the day and about 30 attended the conference. This performance is very satisfactory considering the event was on a work and school day. Both the management of Parc national du Bic and our dynamic group of presenters claimed to be eager to do it again next year.

See you in 2018!
